“Often His call is to follow in paths we would not have chosen. But if in truth we say, ‘Anywhere, Lord’, He takes us at our word and orders our goings, and then He puts a new song in our mouths, even a thanksgiving unto our God. There is wonderful joy to be had from knowing that we are not in the way of our own choice. At least I have found it so. It gives a peculiar sort of confidence that even we – we who are nothings – are being ‘ordered’ in our goings. It is very good to be ‘ordered’ by our beloved Lord.”
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
Thanks be to God for a friend’s life.
Only a moment, like a flashing of light
So keep me safe, keep me nigh
Keep my way homeward bound
When the rain’s pouring down
Keep me safe, keep me safe
I’m holding on to hope
Never letting go, no, no
‘Til the day I come on home, hope, hope
And finally fully know
– Jenny and Tyler, Holding on to Hope
